South Korea places of interest
From splendid pre-historic sites to bustling shopping malls, from majestic forts and palaces to ancient shrines. National parks teeming with wildlife, verdant valleys and rippling waterfalls, golden beaches and islands, colorful cultural countryside - South Korea has it all.
Palaces:
The Gyeongbok-gung palace in Seoul, also home to the Joseon Palace museum and The Korean Folk Musuem is one of the magnificient in all of Korea. Thought it was razed by a Japansese invasion, most parts of it have been restored now. The Changdeok-gung palace in Seoul, second only to the Gyeongbok-gung palace has been listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. The Hwaseong fortress is another UNESCO world heritage site in the Gyeonggi province.
Markets:
For the tech-savvy there are the Yongsan Electronics Market and the two Techno Marts in Seoul. Housing well over a thousand stores, they have everything from electrical applicances to computers. Namdaemun(Seoul) is one of the biggest street markets in Korea. A very popular place for the tourist shopper. It has everything from clothes to accessories to food. The Migliore and the Lotte Young Plaza, also in Seoul house some of the biggest international names in fashion.
Parks:
There are many parks in Seoul, the most popular of them being the Boramae Park, the Yongsan Park and the Olympic Park. Filled with large green fields, they are ideal for some peace and tranquility in this bustling city. The Olympic Park frequently is a host for many concerts and other events.
Museums:
The Jeju islands have some of the most splendid museums in South Korea. The Jeju Education Museum, Folklore and Natural History Museum, Haenyeo Museum, Jeju Teddy Bear Museum, Museum of African Art, Jeju Independence Museum and the Museum of Green Tea are some of the most prominent ones here. The Maritime Museum in the Gangwon province has a variety of shellfish, corals and fossils on display.
Beaches and hot springs:
The Haeundae Beach in the Busan Province is one of the biggest tourist attraction in all of Korea during summer. The Hur Shim Chung Spa also in the Busan province is one of the largest hot spring complex in all of Asia. If you are looking to unwind after a hectic day, this is the place to be. The Gwangalli Beach again the Busan province is spectacular during the night when the Gwangan Grand Bridge right behind it is fully illuminated. The Iho Beach in Jeju is famous for the brilliant structural effects produced in water due to the two colours of sand here(dark gray and one yellow).
Festivals:
Busan is host to the international film festival held in the fall of every year. The province of Gangwon is host to a myriad of extremely colorful festivals through out the year. The Korean Traditional Liquor and Cake Festival held annually in Gyeongju gives you a chance to indulge in the the traditional rice cake and rice wine. TheBoryeong Mud Festival, the Andong Mask dance festival and the Cheongdo Bullfighting Festival are some worth mentioning.
